hastasya bhushanam daanam
satyam kanthasya bhushanam
shrotrasya bhushanam shaastram
bhushanaihi kim prayojanam
(when)
giving alms is true embellishment for the hands
speaking truths lends true beauty to the neck (that houses the vocal-chords, that produce the
sound that convey the truths)
hearing knowledge (being expounded) truly beautifies the ears (hearing facility)

what is the need for material ornaments?

satyam mata pita gnyaanam dharmo bhrata daya guruhu
shantirmitram kshama bhraatri shadete mama bandhavaaha
Truth is my mother, Knowledge is my father, Values are my brother, Compassion is my teacher.
Peace is my friend, Forgiveness is my sister. These six are my (near and dear ones i.e.) relatives.
